2020 Looking Forward and Backward
2020 Looking Forward and Backward
2020 has so many meanings. It is to be a year of crystal clarity and of 2020 hindsight.
History is destined to repeat itself. Unless we learn from the mistakes of our past, we will become slaves to them once again in the future. Lessons are meant to be learned in order for us to grow into our life’s purpose.
2020: A year of clarity
The perfect vision is 20/20 vision. It is what we all strive for with LASIK. It is the goal of the vision needed to be a pilot. How appropriate is this as we go into the year 2020 as a reminder that we should always seek clarity of purpose and vision.
Vision or Goals
Clarity comes from knowing your purpose and what you want to accomplish. Once you know this, it becomes easy to map out a plan of action. Remember that these plans will change as we run into speed bumps along the way called challenges or mistakes. We can easily overcome these by holding fast to our vision and adjusting our strategies to learn from them and move past them.
Start 2020 with the end in sight. Where do you wish to be on New Year’s Eve, 2021? What will your income look like? What will you see as your biggest accomplishments of 2020? Are the measurements of a great year clear in your mind? who’s lives did you impact this year?
You need to write down all of these questions and looked at them daily. From here, you can determine what activities you need to do and what habits you need to form. You should also look at, and acted upon, these activities daily. Focus on the activity daily, and not the goal. Keep in mind that you should picture your goals daily, and act upon your activities.
For example: if your goal is to lose weight, picture what you will look like on New Year’s Eve 2021. See yourself looking like this daily. However, focus on the daily habits that will get you there. Don’t think about “I want to lose 50 pounds”. Think about “I will work out for 30 minutes today”. And “I will eat no sugars or carbs today”. These are the habits that will make the end result happen. If it is income, focus on how many calls you will make today.
Why do cars have mirrors when we are moving forward? To see what is behind us, and let us avoid things that can turn into issues beside us or in front of us.
We can learn a lot from what has passed behind us. As a matter of fact, this is how we grow. Take the time to reflect on what went wrong in 2019. Learn from it. Share your thoughts with peers with your best interest at heart, and have the wisdom to shed light on the real reasons for what happened. Be humble. Start by saying “this WAS my fault” and not blaming anybody else. Learn how to keep it from happening again in 2020. This is the key to growth. Embrace it, don’t curse it. Learning from your mistakes is the only way to move forward to higher and bigger goals. Look at the things that went wrong and be thankful for them for they are essential for your growth.
2020 and the 80/20 Rule
Use 2020 as a reminder to use the 80 20 rule. Focus on that 20% that drives 80% of your results. Start the day by working first on the habits or tasks that will create the best results for achieving your goals. These are typically the things you like to do the least.
However, they are the things you need to do most to hit your goals. Don’t be bogged down by tasks that won’t move you forward.
Do Your Best
To wrap up, remember to set clear goals and the activities needed to achieve them. Analyze what went wrong in your past, and create ways to get past them and learn from them. Finally, focus on what is important and do not get lost in the tasks that do not move you towards your goals. May you have a blessed and prosperous 2020.
