Blogging: a great way to help others and generate income.
Blogging: a great way to help others and generate income.. In my humble opinion, Blogging is one of the greatest ways out there to create multiple income streams and help others as well. As a matter of fact, it is a big part of my income. So let’s start with the basics. We will cover the following:
- What is a Blog
- How much can I Make
- What tools and skills do I need
- How much does it cost
- How do I promote it
- Can I do this in my spare time
- How do I make money with it
- Who can help me with it
By the end of this article, you should have enough information to start, run and start earning money from your own Blog! We will take you from Soup to Nuts! Sound good? Let’s get started.
What is a Blog?
First of all, What is a Blog?
To begin with, you are currently reading one! A Blog is a website where you can go to find out information on a topic of interest. This Blog happens to be about helping people in their Golden Years. In a nutshell, you set up a website, post helpful information about your subject, get readers to subscribe and visit your site on a regular basis, and interact with your audience through articles that you write or find through a multitude of sources.
The more relevant content you add, the higher the value you provide. Would you rather go to 20 different store to buy 20 different related products, or go to one place that has the best information, products, support and prices to buy all 20 items? Of course, you would rather go to one place. This is like your Blog.
Pick Your Passion
Obviously, you need to be passionate and knowledgeable about a subject to write about it. Here is where you have a huge advantage over the younger generations! You have YEARS of experience, knowledge and wisdom. You can leverage this to write articles that millions of less experienced people want to read! The possibilities for your Blog are endless.
You could write a Blog for people who love wood work, or cooking, or science, or reviewing cameras, or animals. The key is to find a subject that you love and would want to write about daily. Many people want to read about what you have to say. This is your golden ticket to a potentially HUGE income stream! Does this sound easy enough so far?
How Much Can I Make?
This brings us to our second point: How much can I make?
The real answer is that your earning potential is unlimited! There are many people out there earning six or even seven figures PER MONTH with their Blogs. This, however, is NOT typical, but it absolutely is possible!
Your first goal should be to reach $1,000 per week. Then you scale it up as far as you wish to take it. The bigger the potential audience, the bigger the potential income. If your passion is the one-eyed, red-footed, mountain toad, then your potential income will be very small as there aren’t a lot of people out there looking for information on this animal I just made up to illustrate the point. If you wish to write about cameras for instance, there are 4,090,000 people PER MONTH who search for cameras! This is a huge potential.
It Does Take Time
Don’t expect to make money overnight!!!!
To earn enough money to replace a paycheck will take consistent effort over a long period of time. You can expect it will take from 1 to 4 years to get to that first $1,000 per week goal. THIS IS NOT A GET RICH QUICK PLAN!!!! It is a real opportunity with a million dollar per year income potential! It does NOT happen overnight.
Unfortunately, most people quit before they see the rewards. Human nature has a tendency to lose site of the big, long term picture. This is where the right mindset is CRITICAL!
The Right Stuff (Mindset)
Set your mind right or set your sails to another shore!!!
Pay Close Attention: If you can’t commit to writing an article at least weekly, for the next several years and set your mind to making this work, no matter what, then you are better of not starting. I will say it again: Either commit to succeed no matter what, or find another way to make additional income streams!
The majority of people will tell you that your wasting your time, it won’t work, you don’t have what it takes, ect. DON’T LISTEN! There is enough proof out there that it does work for those who commit. Start to work on your mind as well as your business. You can find the resources you need here at Great Past 60 in the Mind, Body, Spirit section. This is EXACTLY why it was created and why it is such an important focus area.
Tools of the Trade
So what tools do I need?
The first tool is materials to keep you in the right mindset. You have this here. Once again visit the Mind, Body, Spirit section. Next, you will need a computer and a good internet connection. While it is possible to start this for free, realistically, you should plan on investing from $200 to $500 per month in your business to get started. If you have these things covered, you have what you need to make this work.
Here is a list of the remaining tools needed to make this work faster and easier. While you can get away without some of them, you are stacking the deck against yourself by not using them.
Income Ideas: Blogging Tool Box
- Internet Connection
- Website and hosting service
- Email account
- WordPress Software
- The RIGHT training
- A mentor
- Email service aggregator
- Funnel Builder
- Various affiliate accounts
- YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and other social media accounts
- Google adwords and other marketing accounts
- Solo ad sources
- A budget for ads ($200 to $500 per month to start)
- A bank or paypal account
Breaking Down the List
We have already covered Mindset, computer and internet connection, so we will begin with the website. You will need a website for your Blog. There are many parts to a website but I will explain them now.
First, there is the name. It should be as short as possible and match your mission. For instance, I have a dog supply store called thedogshome.com. It is easy to remember, descriptive of the nische, and unique. Make sure to get one that ends in “.com”, as these are most recognized and trusted. Namemesh.com is a great site to help you search for your name. It is a free service.
Next comes the web host. As the name implies, this is where your Blog will actually reside. It does NOT live on your computer. Your computer only connects with it over the internet. Consequently, you can turn off your own computer without shutting down your Blog.
Your web host will also secure the domain name (blog name) as part of the service. Here are a few of my favorite web hosts:
- Hostgator: Host Gator is one of my favorites because of it’s low cost and the great features it provides. Service is good, but GoDaddy is better. You get WordPress included and SSL. This all comes with the purchase of your domain.
- Go Daddy: Go Daddy is one of the largest hosts with tons of features and amazing service. It costs more than some of the others, but it is worth it. Word Press is included and you can add on a Microsoft 365 email account and an SSL certificate. I would highly recommend getting the privacy feature as well.
- Blue Host: This is another popular provider. It also comes with all the bells and whistles including WordPress.
Skip the learning curve! Use Local Internet Ads to do ALL the work for you!!!!
Local Internet Ads is a truly amazing company that can do all the work for you as well as help you grow your Blog. They have NO long term contracts to sign, and produce some of the best looking Blogs I have ever seen. They also have thousands of satisfied clients across the country. Sounds expensive, right?
It’s NOT!! Use the Great Past 60 link and get a free consultation and your monthly cost will be $299. To have a professional web designer build a site for you typically runs in the thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars. Local Internet has made a special arrangement with Great Past 60 to build your Blog for free!
On top of this, they will give you a free matching email account, free basic advertising, and set up your social media accounts. All you have to do is create content! For $299 per month for the basic Great Past 60 package, this is a really amazing deal.Click here to sign up for your free consultation.
This is an easy one. Plan on spending from $0 to $20 per month depending on the features. Remember: cash is king when starting any business, so don’t spend more than you need! The name should coincide with your Blog name. For example: My blog name is Great Past 60. The domain name is https://greatpast60.com and the email address is email@example.com.
What? WordPress: If words on a page are already flat, how can you press them?
What exactly, is WordPress? WordPress is a software program that is used to create your Blog. Think of it like this: You are writing a book of short stories. You come up with a unique title for your book. This title is like your domain name. Next, you buy a notebook and a pen. The notebook is your web host. This is where all the words really are. Alas, the golden pen! This is WordPress. It is the program you use to put your thoughts on the computer screen.
Since it already comes with the web hosts listed above, you wont have to buy it. Learning to use it, is a different story. It is not to difficult, but I would plan on a month or two to get the hang of it.
The Right Training
Training and Mentors are SO important!
When I first started in the on line business space, I struggled with every step. I spent thousands of dollars marketing, with NO sales in return. I watched every free video I could rest my eyes upon, only to find out that you had to pay to get the nuts and bolts.
So I did pay! Thousands of dollars, and I still didn’t succeed. One of the best out there is Legendary Marketer. For a price of $7, You can do their 14 day challenge which has a tremendous amount of information. For $30 more dollars per month, you can become a member and gain access to their member content.
Then there is the most important and best investment I made in my business. I paid Legendary Marketers $2,500 for a customized plan, and a personal mentor to help me every step of the way. I can’t begin to tell you how valuable this has been. It turned everything around for me!
Here are some specific training ideas that I have personally used and found to be incredibly valuable:
Legendary Marketer: This is a link to get the free book, but I would suggest you enroll in the 14 day challenge.
Click Funnels: I have not yet introduced you to ClickFunnels, but it is a very important part of advertising your Blog, your store, your cause or any other place you wish to drive traffic. Get Russell Brunsen’s Free book, Dot Com Secrets with this link.
Blogging with Rory: Performance Blogging System is a way to make money from a blog quickly. Quickly, because they have one already made for you. All you have to do is change the wording. Within my first month, I was making money. Most importantly, it teaches you what and how to do it for the Blog of your passions.
John Crestani: They say success leaves clues. In John’s case, there are a lot of clues. Over two hundred million of them. All in green dollars. He has been extremely successful and can help mentor you as well.
YouTube: Start with Freedom Influencer and Clickbank Success. Then keep exploring. There is a ton of content out there.
More Tools to Help You Grow
Ok! So now you are up and running. You have a beautiful Blog. You have created a ton of valuable information on your Niche. But you are missing the most important thing: readers!
How do you get people to visit your Blog? This is where advertising comes in. More on this later, but first, here are a few tools you will need to grow your subscriber list:
What is a funnel? Imagine you have a store (your Blog). It is filled with tons of inventory (your posts). Now a customer walks in your store, looks around and walks out without buying anything. Sound familiar? What happened? The customer became overwhelmed with the amount of stuff you have and didn’t want to make a decision, so they left.
Now imagine you hired the greatest concierge salesperson out there (ClickFunnels). That salesperson greets the customer out front, asks them a few questions about them and what they are looking for. They take the customer into the store directly to the thing they were looking for and they buy it. The sales person then suggests that most people buy product B to go with their purchase because of —.
This is ClickFunnels. A funnel is a process that takes a customer through a series of steps, and ends up creating happy customers, and multiple sales for you.
Click Funnels 14 day free trial After the 14 day free trial, it costs $97 per month, but it is the heart of promoting your business. Cash is King, so you only need the lowest plan to start with. Click Funnels will be the program used to promote, advertise and sell the products you choose. Take advantage of the amazing free training there as well.
ABC’s: Aweber Begets Customers!
It’s All in a Name. 100,000 of them for starters!
To run a profitable Blog, you need to add value through content. However, you also need to build a list of subscribers. Your goal should be to get to a subscriber base of 100,000 people. With this amount of readers, you will probably be making $10,000 per week from your Blog.
An email aggregator captures the email addresses of people who have “opted in” to your Blog. It then helps you stay in contact on a regular basis to keep them engaged. This is a MUST HAVE tool. Here are a few Really great ones:
- The first is AWeber.
- It works in conjunction with Click Funnels to capture the emails needed to grow your business. It runs $19 per month and is extremely powerful. This email was written on AWeber and will enable you to add value to everybody who has entrusted you with their email address. Here is the link to sign up: AWeber
- Constant Contact is the second.
- While it is more powerful than Aweber, it is also more expensive and for me, more difficult to use.
- Then there isGetResponse.
- Another good one, but I have not used it.
Time to Get Paid!!! Affiliate Links
Show me the money$ Finally.
Finally, it’s time to get paid. Here is how your Blog turns into the goose that lays the golden egg. It is called Affiliate Links.
Lets go back to the camera blog example we used earlier. Your Blog is about photography and you have done reviews of cameras. Your reader decides that he likes the camera you just reviewed and wants to buy it. In your review, you said that Amazon has the best price and you put the link to the place on Amazon that takes him right to the camera.
The reader clicks the link, and is taken to Amazon, where he adds the camera to his cart. He even adds a few non related items to his cart just because he is already there and needs them. The reader checks out, pays and excitedly awaits his new camera. How in the world does that benefit you?
You had previously signed up as an Amazon Affiliate. The link you gave the reader had your affiliate code embedded in it. When the reader bought the camera, it prompted Amazon to pay you a commission. ON EVERYTHING THE READER HAD IN THEIR CART!!! The reader did NOT pay more, Amazon just earned less, and you created an income that keeps giving. Any time somebody clicks through your blog, ChaChing!!! The affiliate commission money is deposited directly into your bank account.
Based on your Niche, you will want as many affiliate links as possible. It makes it easy for your reader to find what they want, and you make money! That is a Win Win deal. There will be more information on Affiliate Links in upcoming articles.
I will finish up this article with some foreshadowing of things to come. Advertising and social media promotion are such an important part of your success that they warrant some deep coverage. It is forthcoming, Make sure you register as a member of Great Past 60 to be kept in the loop. You can sign up with this link, if you haven’t already done so. You can click this link to register and see how ClickFunnels and Aweber work together.
YOUR Help is NEEDED!
